Winter Olympics

The K2 class celebrated the winter olympics in art class by making these torches.
The fire was done with washable markers and brushing with water. The students did all the cutting and tracing of their own hands.

Overlapping Vases

The 1st grade worked on many skills with this project. First they followed me on the board drawing various shaped vases with patterns. It was important to have them overlap. The idea is that they will be transparent colored glass vases. After outlining with black marker they painted the red and blue vases. Once dry they did the yellow in the center to finish the transparent effect.

Elephant Festival

The 2nd grade watched a slide show of elephants from the Indian Elephant Festival. The elephants are painted in vibrant colors and become living pieces of art. The students used oil pastels and watercolor.

Post Art Club

By the looks of my feet I'd say we had fun at the sculpture class this week.
It's plaster and cleans right up.

Art Club (sculpture)

We used Mexican red clay for the end of of art club. It's a nice air drying clay, but can be a little messy. The students worked on coil pots and coil animals. After drying they were painted with acrylic paint. I just need to spray with a clear sealant and they are ready to take home.
The thumb is not clay, but plaster of paris that was cast from clay. Kinda creepy looking.

Dream Catchers

The 3rd grade class finished up the dream catchers. I think they did a great job grasping the concept of weaving. Now they can take the dream catchers home and hang them over their bed.

Art Club in full Swing

We are starting a new session of the Art Club this week, the theme is Animation. If you were in sculpture you can come this week too to make up the snow day we had. I'll just have both sculpture and animation at the same time that one day.

Abstract Art Name

Here a few of the final outcome of the simple but effective abstract art project. The 6th grade started by drawing their name with pencil with the letters reaching top to bottom of the square paper. Then color with sharpies. Once done the name is cut into 9 squares that get rearranged in an interesting composition.
Sometimes abstract art can come from something you see all the time but just rearranged.

Crazy Sock Day

When I came to school I didn't know that it was going to be crazy sock day. So I decided that I would move up the day to do my sock pattern assignment with the 1st and 2nd graders.
They had to draw 10 sections on the sock then within each section create a new pattern. Thinking of ten patterns is harder than you think.

Sparkle Princess

I love this drawing, but I forgot who gave it to me. If you are the artist let me know so I can give you credit.
