Surreal Art

7th grade started this project with a lesson on one point perspective. A simple room was made with a window and door. Then they used marker to liven up the room. The surrealism twist was added with images cut from magazines.

Rene Magritte is a well know surrealist artist.

Pattern Socks

First grade always loves doing this project. The students started with just a picture of a sneaker. They used a ruler to draw a long sock coming out of the shoe and add stripes. Within each stripe they were instructed to make a different pattern using crayons. The sneakers were jazzed up too.

Auction Projects

We were busy catching up on the Gala auction projects. I will have lots of pictures next week.

Birthday Birds in Progress

Look here next week to see what 8th grade is making for Kindergarten.

One Point Perspective Aquarium

5th grade had a lesson in one point perspective and used the skills to make a room with a curved roof and checkered floor. They didn't know what the room was going to be while drawing it. When they finished I told them to paint the walls and roof with blue water color paint. That was when they figured out that it was going to be an aquarium. I played a video of live footage of an aquarium for inspiration so they could add ocean life to their own.

Weaving Hearts

This was suppose to be the Valentine's project for 3rd grade but we had a snow day. It's still a fun project after Valentine's. The students drew with oil pastels on colorful paper hearts. Then they used their weaving skills to make this almost cubist effect of hearts. After weaving they got to splatter paint over the whole thing. I think that was the part they liked the most.

3D Collage

K2 have been working on collage for a few weeks now. This week we took to a new place and made 3D collage using tissue paper glued to balloons. I was going to have the students pop the balloons but when I got in class they had already deflated. They still look cool though.

Trashion

Here is a sample of what can be made in the upcoming Art Club "Trashion" class. We still have some openings. I made this elegant ladies hat complete with vail out of paper plates, shopping bags and orange sacks.

Recycled Creations

Each tray contains various recycled objects. One tray went to a student in 4th grade to look over and invent a creation (real or imagined). Then they were to draw directions using words and drawing for a seventh grader to follow and build the vision. I will post examples of directions next week. Once the ball started rolling they didn't want to stop, so I've extended the project to next week.

Bird Quilt

The 1st grade students each drew a bird. They came out great, lots of colors! Then I placed them all together in a photoshop file and sent them to Spoonflower. They take the image and make into fabric. They also do wallpaper and wrapping paper. Our lovely fabric will be made into a quilt that will be up for auction at the gala.
