Brag Board

Next time you come to the front office take a look to the right and see some of the standout artwork being produced in art class on the Sacred HeART board.

Snow Clouds

This took some time to put together, but the class had fun. We stared with a large piece of watercolor paper and a variety of scrap paper. We talked about collage and how to make a design using small pieces of paper. It took a whole class to fill the wc paper with glue and scraps. Next class was a lesson on how to draw snowflakes using letters. The students made four different snow flakes on small circles that were added to the finished collage cloud.

More Work in Progress

The second grade is working on a sculpture with painted water bottles. More to come...

Auction Items

The top image of a wheel barrow is in progress from the 4th grade class. They are adding roses. It's being done with layers of shades of red using stencils. The paint is made to withstand the outdoors. It's looking good!
The next item is from Kindergarten. The students fingerprints are the colorful leafs.

Work in Progress

I have a lot of classes in progress with projects so I don't have a much finish work to show this week. However here a peak at the fifth graders working on their one point perspective project. I should have some of the finished pieces to show next week.

Friendship Chain

Some of the 2nd grade girls brought this into class to show me. It's a friendship chain. Each friend draws a link and they all get attached to make a cool looking chain. I love it.

Louise Bourgeois

This lesson started awhile ago. It began with a talk about the French artist Louise Bourgeois. Then the class spent three weeks building there own version of Bourgeois' famous spider sculpture.

We used wire, paper, tape and paint. I'm very happy with the way they came out. But I wanted an interesting way to display them. So I photographed each student and their sculpture and superimposed them together so show more of the proportion you would see with Bourgeois' sculpture. The students got creative with their poses.

Artist Trading Cards

It's that time again when we trade small works of art (Artist Trading Cards) with a fellow Weymouth school. This year we are trading with the 3rd grade class at St. Jerome's School. Here you can see the masterpieces our 3rd graders made using a variety of materials. I will be dropping them off to St. Jerome and then get their cards to give to the Sacred Heart kids. They are very excited about this.

Exposed Brick Wall

One of my favorite things about teaching art is when the students see what they are going to draw and right away think it will be impossible.
Then sure enough they handle it with flying colors. This was a step by step lesson on drawing and shading an exposed brick wall with the 7th grade class. They got this done in one 40 minute class.
