Squids

Know I need to say that I LOVE the way these squid came out. The 4th grade class followed along with a video to draw them step by step. The whole time the students were doubting their piece. I hope once they show what they did to others they will see how impressive they are. Our goal what not to make the squid look exactly like the one the adult drew on the video, but how to make their own squid and learn how to show overlapping legs. I think they did a great job and should be proud.

Blow Painting

I knew that the 1st grade could handle working with straws and paint because they worked with it last year. This time they made spider shapes using the purple watercolor they made by mixing red and blue.

Art from Home

Thanks David for sharing the charcoal pencil drawing you did. Nice job in the shading. Keep it up.

Patterns on Snakes

We continued our work with patterns in K2 by studying the patterns on snakes. First we looked at lots of pictures of snakes for inspiration then using paint on cut up sections of fruit holders. Not sure what the  real name for it is, but it's the cardboard sheets that go between fruit in the supermarket.
The class did a great job working with paint in the art room for the first time. I see lots more paint projects in the future.

Art Club Buttons

Here is a sneak peek at the buttons I've giving out at the art club this year.

Art from Home

Thanks William for sharing the lovely drawing you did at home.
You work with texture and contrast very well!

Summer Shades

Here the 5th grade class made sunglasses that are viewing a scene from some fun event from the summer vacation. We got quite the variety, broadway show, fireworks and swimming at the beach.

Circle Painting Details

The second day of circle painting the 7th grade added more color and detail with oil pastels.
They really are stunning up close.

Patterns

The K2 class got to work on patterns in the very first art class. Each student has a folder that will be were all their artwork will go. It had their name in block outline letters. After talking about patterns they were instructed to pick two colors to color their name in a pattern.
Piece of cake as you can see.

The following day we took it further. First they drew a squiggly line that does not overlap.
Next they drew a pattern of three shapes, circle, square, triangle on the line.
Last they picked three colors to go with each shape. This takes lots of patients, even for an adult. The K2 class handled it great and had a good time.

Shading Colored Pencils with Colored Pencils

The sixth grade followed my steps on the board to make this radial image of many pencils. Then using colored pencils add shading to give dimension.

Finished Line Variety

I got to hang up some of the finished paintings by 1st grade. I had no doubt that they would do a great job with this project.

Water Bottle Flowers

Here is a sample of some flowers made last year that I finally got on a board to add to the wall of our hallway. The students cut off the bottom of an empty water bottle and cut petals into the plastic. We use acrylic paint on the underside of the flower.

Jumping Right Into It!

Here I have both the 4th grade class and the 7th grade class jumping into a large collaborative painting project. 7th is working on circle paintings and 4th is working on an outer space mural. No waisting time in my class!

Line Variety

I knew the 1st grade class would have no trouble jumping into a project. They used oil pastel and followed along with me to draw different types of lines. Then using watercolors the students found shapes made and filled with the paint.

Parish Picnic

Megan, Susanne and Emily are here showing off the centerpieces they made for the Parish Picnic. Nice job girls. You can enjoy the centerpieces close up on this Sunday after 11:30 Mass at Weston Park. Food, music, games and lots of fun.

Back to School!!!

It's been a great summer vacation and now it's time to get back to the classroom. I'm really looking forward to seeing all the students. I've missed all of them and all the great work they do.

A few things that I did this summer .....

I went to the zoo.

I went to the Revere Beach Sand Sculpture contest.

Canobie Lake Park

And took part in the painting of the cool mural along with other Sacred Heart School parents, students and even grandparents. A big thanks goes out to everyone who came out to help with this huge project. Everyone worked hard and had fun. I am so proud to be part of the Sacred Heart Community.
