Alphabet Butterfly

K2 worked on symmetry, shapes and the alphabet.

William Wegman Dogs

The first graders looked at some of the photography work of William Wegman. He is a local artist that studied at Mass Art and has gone on to do well photographing his dogs dressed as people.
The students then made their own version of dogs as people.

3D Printer

Thanks Chandra for sharing the amazing 3D printer you built with the class. It inspired many of the students and teachers. I believe that this will be an important part of technology in the future.

Tissue Flowers

K2 worked on cutting tissue paper and glueing to make some festive flowers. Soon we might see some real flowers outside the window.

It's Raining in the Art Room!

The happy clouds in the art room started to rain this week after the 3rd grade class was in it.
They learned how to draw different emotions by changing the eyebrows and mouth. Then using that new skill they made some emotional rain drops.

Nick Cave

The second grade finished coloring the Nick Cave sound suits. They are impressive in the hallway.
When the ICA had a Cave show last year they had these coloring sheets for young visitors to work on but they ordered too many, lucky for us. I have a nice stack of them for the school now.

Here is a sample of some of his work.

Optical Illusion Viewers

This is what it looks like viewing from strait on.

I think the 8th grade should be proud with the way this project came out. Every student made beautifully illustrated drawing of caterpillars and the butterfly it turns into for the accordion viewer. It  works well when walking down the hall. One way you see the caterpillar the other way you see the butterfly.

Contour Drawing of Hands

The 6th grade did a quick one class exercise on contour drawing. With thin black markers the students traced their hand in an interesting crop on the paper. Then draw all the lines and creases they observe on their hand. Last fill the background with a texture pattern. Next we will explore shading.

Trashion

Here is a sample of some of the looks made in the "Trashion" Art club. We hope to have a little runway show at the spring concert for everyone to see what was made. Some recycled items used: felt, buttons, pom poms, coffee filters, dish gloves, paper bowls and lots of hot glue.

Heritage Poster

The 3rd grade class was invited to enter artwork to the International Festival in Hingham again. This time we made a collaborative piece with each student making a portrait and also the background using paint and oil pastels. Here is a link with information on when and were the festival is.

Drawing bunnies

Before we leave for Easter break the 2nd and 3rd grade classes did some bunny drawing lessons.
I alway love how every student is following the same direction, but end up with animals with such different personalities.

Happy Easter!!!
