Nick Cave Soundsuits

I talked about American artist Nick Cave with he second grade and we watched some video with his Soundsuits. Then the class got into groups and colored in life-size sound suits. They look great in the hallway.

Complementary Colors

I talked to the 3rd grade about complementary colors and showed how to find them on the color wheel. You can see it on my projection screen above. Then each student got a worksheet with a color assigned to them. Next they had to find their complementary color partner in the class. They switched worksheet with the partner and wrote a complement about the student in the word bubble.

The Grouchy Ladybug

K2 watched a video of the story by Eric Carle "The Grouchy Ladybug". Then we made our own ladybugs. First they cut out the shapes, then they counted out four spots for each side. After glueing everything down they drew a nice garden for the ladybug to live in.

Sacred Heart at Tufts Library

The first grade class made figures running in class when we were working on drawing movement. The art is on display at the Children's Room at Tufts Library through the summer. Be sure to go to the library this summer and get involved in the reading program "On you mark, get set, READ".

Needle Felting

Suzanne and Emily gave needle felting a try in Art Club and took to it quite fast.
How it works is your use a barbed metal needle to sculpt dyed wool into shapes. It's perfect for making cute fuzzy animals.

Chalkboard Elephant

The creative thought process is always going in the art room. I erased the board with my very dirty eraser and left an interesting shape behind. Alexis and Mary thought it looked like an elephant and added the detail to finish it off. His name is Bob.

Value with Ice Cream

To continue working with layers I had the second grade draw a very tall multi scoop ice cream cone.
Next we did work with value. Each student picked either strawberry or chocolate (red or brown paint). Then just using white paint added gradually they made the values of the flavor for each layer.

1st Grade Funny Faces

Faces in Random Places

We made some of our own faces.
