Crazy swirly line

Grade 1 stared by drawing a crazy swirly line. Next they had to look for the shapes they made within the twisted line. Each shape then got filled with a pattern using makers. The finished product is a lively abstract image.

Silhouette haunted house

Silhouette was the focus of this project. Halloween is right around the corner so the 2nd grade class made a sillouette of a haunted house and added their own scary details.

Apples in a blue bowl

I had to show a lot of these paintings because I'm so amazed with them. The K2 class started with watercolors to make the background and blue bowl. Then using red tempera they added three apples. We worked on apples in our last lesson.
Then after talking about shadows and highlights the students used oil pastels to make the white highlights to the apples and blue for the shadows. I'm very happy with the outcome.

Shading exercise

The class really hit it out of the park with this project. The 6th grade students are getting their shading skills down using colored pencils. The background was done with watercolors and plastic wrap.

Name skeletons

Look close and you will notice that the body of the skeletons are the cursive version of the students' name. It took some real skill to cut the paper names in mirror image.
Happy Halloween !

Finished ballons

Well here they are, all done. They look great from outside.
When the 2nd grade brings them home they can add a small doll to the basket and take it for a ride.

Winter birch trees

Yes I know it's not winter yet, but they are still lovely paintings. The 3rd grade made these by putting tape down in the shape of trees and branches. Then they painted over the tape with blue watercolor paint.. Once dry they lifted the tape off and added the details and cute cardinal.

Mexican skulls

The 4th grade class celebrated the Mexican tradition of "The Day of the Dead" by making decorated skull mask from paper plates.

Apples (with worm holes!)

This K2 class is so much fun. They made these really cool apples on cardboard with tempera paint then put them aside to dry. We the class returned the following week we found worm holes in the apples!

Contour hands using lines

The 8th grade started the year with this exercise of contour drawing. Just by using lines they show their own hand in dimension.

Art Club

The Art Club has officially started. The first session is focusing on figure drawing. We started by making small figures made from pipe cleaners and foil to use as small models to draw from. It's always good to have something to draw from to get the proper proportions.
