Cartouches

The 7th grade class have been studying Egypt in class so we fit in some lessons to go with it. Each student got a small piece of clay that is soft until it's baked. The lesson was to shape it to a form that would fit their name in hieroglyphics. The symbols were engraved using a toothpick. Then after they were baked to be hard the student painted them with black acrylic paint then gold paint on top. The final product resembles an antique pharaohs cartouche.
