I've done this lesson every year and each time I'm impressed with how well the students handle it. The 7th grade can be hard on them selves sometimes about their drawing abilities. I think by looking at the skill in the drawings of their sneakers you can see differently. Each student had to look at the sneakers they were wearing and draw in pencil a side view. The go over the drawing with a thin sharpies with contour line.
For the background we did something a little different. The student used the sole of their shoe for inspiration to make a pattern they would then make a print of using foam trays and red paint.
I hope the kids know that this high school level work they doing, and doing well.
