When the first grade made the drip painting of the snake they also added some bright red to some doilies. They were used the following week as hearts, but not just any heart. First we talked and watched a video about how to draw different emotions. The student then picked an emotion to draw on the heart. After that they had to draw a body to match the emotion. I think we have some future cartoonist.
