Field Trip Sketches

I think we have a future illustrator in the class.
This is what Natalie got from her visit to the museum.
I think this pretty much sums it up.

Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum Field Trip

I really didn't do a good job taking photos of the field trip. I was too busy enjoying myself.
We had a wonderful time getting a tour by the museum teachers. The 4th grade students were definitely impressed with what they got to view in this hidden gem in Boston. I hope they can go back again and share the experience with their family.

Thank you Ciara for making this great day possible.  :)

Sketch Artist

This game is always a hit. The 4th grade gave it a try this week.
The students get into pairs. One is a witness, the other is the sketch artist.
The witness has a photo that they describe to the artist and guide them to get as close as they can to representing the photo without the artist seeing it. After they are done they switch roles.

Pastel Pipes

The 7th graders worked together to complete this pastel drawing of intersecting pipes.
Chalk pastels was used to show shadow and highlights.

Work from Home

Thanks Emily in grade 7 for the great piece you brought in from home.
It will definitely inspired other classmates.
It looks good with the raindrops hanging from the clouds in the classroom.

Birthday Birds

Sign Language and Pangrams

The 4th grade class one day started to show me they they knew some sign language. I knew some too so we had some fun with that. Then I thought it would be fun to incorporate sign language into an art lesson. Hands are one of the toughest things to draw. So I found this piece by Keith Haring and used it for inspiration for a contour hand lesson. To add a little extra we also incorporated a Pangram.
Each student got a letter (hand) to illustrate in the style of Haring.
See if you can guess the pangram sentence.

Tiger

6th grade class tiger

I got a photo of a tiger and gridded it up to 20" x 20". Each square was cut and handed out to the students to copy on drawing paper. I did not tell them what the picture was of until all the squares were finished. It's pretty cool how you can see all the difference styles of drawing they work in. It has a cubism look to it.

Art Club Videos

The videos are uploaded for you to view.
All videos were made using the free app "Stopmotion" and items found in the art room.

Raining in the Art Room

K2 had a little time left after finishing their Georgia O'Keeffe painting so they made some cool sun catcher rain drops for our clouds hanging in the art room. Each rain drop got an expressive face after I gave a quick lesson on how to draw emotions.

More Runners

The 2nd grade got another week to finish up the runners for the bulletin board at Tuft's Library. These are going to look great and help to motivate kids visiting the library to enjoy the playground too.

Auction Items Preview

Here we have paper quilling by the 6th grade class and felt flowers sewn by the 7th grade.
Look for these to bid on at the Spring Social.

Navajo Jewelry

Silver and Turquoise Navajo jewelry

I think you can tell which necklaces are the students based on the uniforms.
To extend our work on Navajo arts we made necklaces that look the traditional silver and turquoise of the tribe.

What's Growing?

The 1st grade and I discussed what kind of vegetables grow under ground.
Then we all drew them.
Potato, carrot, onion, radish and scallion.

Art Club (Animation)

The Animation session has ended in Art Club, but I just wanted to give a sneak peak at one video by Ani and Becca. It just makes me smile every time I watch it. I will have all the videos uploaded to our channel soon. Just two more to transfer then I will notify the students that were in the class.
