Printmaking

The 7th grade is in the progress of finishing their sneaker project. The background for the sneaker drawing is going to be a pattern inspired by shapes they find on the shoe. The pattern is achieved by printing with foam trays that have been drawing into with pencils. Next week I'll post some of the final pieces.

Looking up at a Fall Tree

Last week the 3th grade class drew koi fish looking from above. This week took a new position of look up at a tree. They still used oil pastels so they could do blending of the shadow and highlights.

Paper Mache Pumpkins

 We used shopping bags filled with newspaper and rubber bands to achieve the shape of a small pumpkin. I gave each a quick spray of white paint before the 6th grade added colored tissue and glue for the final touch. I think we need one more class to finish up before they can take them home.

Charcoal/Pastel Owls

The 5th grade made these owls. They were giving reference of different owls to choose from. First they sketched the basics out in pencil. Then the black was done in charcoal. It's perfect for blending the feather texture. Last they chose two colors from the chalk pastels for the background and the eyes. 

Eyeballs!

When we made the snakes in K2 the other week I had some extra cardboard circle shapes. It was a great opportunity to make crazy eyeballs with eyelashes and all. The students colored the eyes with oil pastels in the color of their own eyes. Just in time for Halloween.

Color Mixing Leafs

The 4th graders each got a leaf that there were to trace in interesting positions on a piece of watercolor paper. Next they where asked to make a negative image of the leaf by coloring the background black with oil pastel. Now for the color mixing each student got red, blue and yellow watercolor paint. As you can see it mixed nicely to make orange, blue and purple too.

Circle Painting

I got to hang up one of the circle painting by 7th grade.

Sneakers

The 7th graders just started working on the contour drawings of their sneakers this week, but I had to showoff the first sketch Katie made in under 30 minutes. Excellent job.
