Nick Cave

I think one more class and the 2nd grade will be done with their Nick Cave figures.

Roman Columns

To continue with the study of Rome the 6th grade class moved from mosaics to architecture. We look at just columns which was very important in Roman architecture and can still be seen everywhere. The have three major styles of columns, Corinthian, Ionic and Doric. The students got to choose the style they would reproduce from reference supplied. They started with pencil then added color and shading with brown color pencil.

Paul Klee

This is Paul Klee. The 1st grade class and I looked at some of his work from the impressionism period. I think they enjoyed the colors he uses and the playful nature of the work. One of his pieces we used as inspiration for a drawing of fish. For this the students used oil and chalk pastels on black paper. Lots of skills came into play. Patterns, drawing fish, cutting and glueing were used.

Masks

William in 4th grade did a great job with his African inspired mask. After looking at some reference the students used plates, cardboard, paper and paint to create a variety of interesting mask. We kept the color palette in black, red, brown and white.

Stop Motion Art Club Class

Mexican Folk Art Suns

The 3rd grade class learned about the Metapac region of Mexico. This region is know for the beautiful clay folk art suns. The students used the colors and expressions typically used in the original art from Mexico. I think we can all agree we needed some more sun after this crazy winter!

Beetles

The 4th grade class did a study of beetles. I had a variety of pictures of beetles for reference for them to choose from. The first study was done with an old style fountain pen and ink. The class took to it quickly. This was the positive drawing. The negative study was done with a scratch board and a scratching tool. They look good on the hallway outside the art room.
