Heart people

Way back in December the first grade worked with red and green watercolors on coffee filters and then we made garland for the art room. Rather than tossing them after Christmas they got transformed to these cool heart people by the 2nd grade. First they drew an expression on the heart. Then after attaching the heart to the paper they had to draw the body and background to match the expression.

Festive Indian Elephants

The 6th grade class is focusing on art from India. They just finished working on these decorated elephants seen at the Elephant Festival in India. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_Festival The texture of the elephant skin was achieved with paint and plastic wrap.

Next they will be working on the art of Mehndi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehndi It's the practice of applying detailed temporary tattoos to the hands,arms,feet and legs during religious ceremonies. We will be doing this with black ink on paper though.

Monster project

The 4th graders tryed out a new project in computer class. First they draw a imaginary monster in KidPix. Then they type in Word a description of the monster. They then send the description to the 4th gr. students at Saint Francis Xavier School to have them try to draw the monsters using the description. It will be fun to see how close they get to the original drawing!

One point perspective street

The 5th and 6th graders worked on some more advanced perspective drawings. I took a few classes, but I think the get it now and can use the skill to make more realistic drawings.

Gala prize

This is a collection of portraits done by the 3rd grade class and is displayed on a large format stretched canvas. Perfect for livening up any room. This will be available for bidding at the school's Gala event in March.

Mexican Foil Tooling Pictures

In Mexico there is the art of engraving pieces of tin in a decorative manner and then painting it. We did our own version of this with the 3rd and 4th graders using heavy weight tin foil and engraving with pencils. The color was added to the tin with permanent markers.

Lions

With a round piece of cardboard and some yarn you can get some great looking lions. First grade followed step by step to draw the lion's face then did a little weaving with yarn to make the lion's mane.

Done!

The 7th and 8th grade have finished the sculpture project! They look kinda cool all grouped together. We ended up with all sorts of interesting body forms.
