Glazy Days: Phase two

Week two of the Glazy Days field trip was a success. The students worked hard painting their clay creations that have been fired. Most got their projects finished to be fired again to turn the paint into a hard, shiny gloss. Next week grade 5 and grade 6 will finish the last touches then theirs will get fired. It has been an educational experience for them to make pottery from start to finish.

Artist of the Week, Joe Sullivan

Thanks to Joe Sullivan in 3rd grade for bringing in the cool graffiti style paintings he's been working on. He taught himself how to use acrylic paints! Keep up the great work!

Tufts Library field trip

The 5th grade students had a great time with their trip to Tufts Library. The week before the students made journals to use for drawing from the vast collection of butterflies, beetles, moths, dragonflies and walking sticks. It's hard to believe that one person had this collection in their home. It was very impressive and we will have to do this again next year.
Thanks to the parent volunteers, you were a great help.

Thanks Cupcake Mojo

The nice ladies at Cupcake Mojo gave these cool looking apple cupcakes to all the teachers in Weymouth. I loved it, thanks.

Glazy Dayz field trip

The next two weeks will be all about clay with grades 2-8. Mrs. D from Glazy Days has some beautiful projects for the students to make. It's a great thing to have the art room to try something new like clay building. We are very lucky. So far the class has been very busy with projects like, decorative owls, vases, birdhouses, taco fish and others. I will post some of the finished pieces later.
I can't wait to see them!

Hatching Chicks

K2 have real eggs in their classroom and I've been told that they have begun to hatch. How exciting!
For this week I had them draw an egg shape and a star pattern in the center. This was a great cutting exercise for them. Then you have to fold the egg to cut the star lines to make a broken hole for the chick to pop out of. No templates for this class, everything was drawn freehand. I'm proud of how K2 has progressed with their drawing skills.

The water bottle wall art coming together

It's starting to look good!

More plastic reuse art

This is an ongoing project working with the empty waterbottles collected in the bins on each floor. Various class including the 4th graders pictured above have contributed to the wall art on the 3rd floor. The bottles have been transformed to a wall of blooming flowers. I'll post pictures as it progresses.

Rainbow Fish

Most of the K2 class knew the story Rainbow Fish so in the spirit of Earth day we used empty water bottles, tissue paper and scraps to make a whole school of Rainbow fish.

Birthday Birds: in progress

This is a new tradition for Sacred Heart School. Thanks to Mr. Beza and Glazy Days the 8th grade class will make original clay birds that will be on display until a lucky Kindergartner has a birthday. Then they will get to choose a bird to take home. I will post the finished birds later....
