Monarch Butterflies

The art room had a week of Monarch butterfly drawing lessons with the 1st and 2nd graders. The bulletin board is showcasing the 1st grade. Some samples of the great work by the 2nd graders are shown above. They are getting the hand of the oil pastels!

Shading

The 5th and 6th graders started this project a while ago. It can take some time so we put it a way and take it out when we feel like it. It pays off though. It's impressive looking when finished!

One point perspective

This is the start of a series of lessons on drawing in perspective. The 5th and 6th graders started by drawing their initials in block style and adding a one point perspective dimension to them. To finish it off they showed off their shading skills.

Weaving

Using just a piece of cardboard and some cool looking string the 3rd and 4th graders tried their hands and weaving. I think they see now how long it must take to make a whole rug by hand! I'm looking forward to hanging the finished pieces up to display.

Torn paper faces

K2 had only their hands as the tools to construct a face by tearing paper and gluing down. We had quite the variety of faces by the end of class. It was so much fun the 1st and 2nd grade did lesson too.

Cardinals

K2 had a drawing lesson on cardinals. They followed step by step and ended up with a wall full of great looking male and female cardinals in the art room.
