This is a small group of the self portraits done by the 1st and 2nd graders. I wish I could show all of them. Each one is bursting with personality. The students were asked to do a self portrait, head and shoulders only and take the time to show details of the face. We talked about the often forgotten details like eyelashes, brows, lips, ears, ect. Once the figure was completed we talked about our favorite seasons. If it's fall then what colors should we use? Warm or cool? What would you see in the landscape? Also what kind of clothes should you be wearing?

Sea Life Mural
The 3rd and 4th graders out did themselves with their mural project. The assignment was to create a new type of fish or sea life. Then draw it with oil pastels. This was the first time using oil pastels for most of the class. I was impressed with how they mastered it. We ended up with quite the variety of colorful fish. The next step was to do a large "real" sea critter. Sharks, seals, rays and all sorts of ideas came to them. The final step was to work as a team and paint the ocean for the background with paint. However, the students produced so many fish that you can't even see the ocean background. We had so many fish that I have many up in the classroom too. Well done!
