Snow in the City

We have been focusing on snow in K2 art class. This week we talked about how the snow will collect on top of buildings. Then they made their own snowy city scene using newspaper, paint and chalk.

Onomatopoeia

The 4th grade learned a new word, Onomatopoeia. It's a word commonly used in comics to show a sound. The students picked random sound then drew the letters in a way that illustrates the sound visually.

Snowmen Mosaics

K2 did a great job with this project. Most of them got done in one class which is amazing.  I have them hanging up in the hallway now.

Stars in the Art Room

Thanks to 2nd grade for adding some colorful stars to the art room.

Planets

The 3rd grade is learning about the solar system so we added some planet drawing to class. The students used chalk pastels and started with the sun. Then after drawing planets they had to correctly shade the sphere with highlights and shadow.

Cherry Blossoms

The 8th grade finished up the Cherry Blossom Project. The background is watercolor paint with salt sprinkled on it to make the texture. The black branches is made by pouring black ink on the paper then use a straw to blow the ink in different directions. The flowers is painted later with tempera paint.

Chewbacca is in the House

Well I guess the Chewbacca lesson last week was a hit. It has started a Chewie frenzy. This week  when the 4th grade came up to art class Mrs. DiLorenzo was dressed as him!!! It was the best!
I wish I went to Sacred Heart when I was in 4th grade. The teachers are the best.

Sewing Art Club

I think the students did great trying out hand sewing (many for the first time). I had some patterns available for birds, mice and monsters. These are just a few. Some of the projects got finished up at home.
