More weaving! This time the K2 class got to try some. First we learned how to draw a fish scale pattern on the fish shape. After adding color the students used yarn by weaving back and forth in the notches around the fish. I think they had fun.

Tree and snow lesson
The third grade class got this lesson with no problem. First we drew step by step a tree, roots, branches, bard and all with oil pastels. Once we liked the way the trees looked I got out the white tempera paint to add snow to all the right places it would land on a tree in real life. Funny thing was that it snowed that morning so we got to look outside for help.
Mini weaving on an easel
These weaving were done by fourth grade. As you can see they are quite small. The easels are made from craft sticks. You can see them on display in the library now.
Dream Catchers
This week we focused on weaving in many of the grades. The dream catchers were made by the third graders. It's a nice intro to radial weaving, plus you get a nice thing to hang up by your bed.
Grade 8 Crow Movie
Ok so this is how the students made this movie. First we watched a film of a crow in flight. I got 13 screen grabs of the full wing beat of the crow then printed b&w versions for the students to trace and add their own designs. They had to keep in mind that each frame will be in motion and to take advantage of that when choosing their design to color in. The finished crows were then scanned and I put them in motion using Adobe Flash. At that point I saved it as an animated gif just for fun.
Next the students made the background for the crow to fly over. Each one had to start and finish linked together. The mountain background then was added in Flash behind the crow. Last the class went to a licence free music site and chose the best music to match the movie and there you go.
I think we can now see how much work goes into an animation. It took us four classes to get a 20 sec. movie. It really came out great!

Weaving Lions
First grade got a taste of weaving today with this projects. First they followed along step by step on how to draw the face of the lion. After pasting the face onto a cardboard circle with slits cut around the outside the students used different texture strings to weave under and over around to make a mane.
