Art Club

The Art Club has officially started. The first session is focusing on figure drawing. We started by making small figures made from pipe cleaners and foil to use as small models to draw from. It's always good to have something to draw from to get the proper proportions.

Hot air ballons (in progress)

The 2nd grade have been working hard on their paper mache hot air ballons. I thought I should show what stage we are at now. Next they will add patterns to the ballons and then make the baskets that will hang below. I'm looking forward to hanging them up when they are done.

What's in your head?

Sometimes it's hard for a 3rd grader to tell you what in their head, but drawing it can be easier.
First they stared with a basic self portrait. Then they had to cut the top off and show everything they think about and like coming our of the head. It's silly and always gets them excited.

Happy Bears

I love this project. I give the 1st graders the same direction in drawing a happy bear, but each one always comes out looking very different. I tell the student that it's not wrong that they look different, they just gave the bear its own personality just like them.

Primary color tree

K2 has added a lovely fall tree made with the primary colors to the art room, thanks!

Summer shades

The summer scenes as seen through the glasses of the 5th graders. First the students had to fold a piece of black paper in half and draw half of an interesting pair of glasses. Then when cut out you get the lenses nice and even. Scenes from the individual student are then added to the white lens. It looks like some kids got to go to some great places this summer.

Types of lines

The first grade got off to a great start with this project. Lots of skills involved. Following direction, drawing skills and painting skills. Each student had to follow along with me as I showed different types of lines with oil pastels. Once done they used watercolors to find shapes to fill in and try not to have the paint mix in with the other shapes. It's a great exercise.

Cats

The 4th grade did a quick cat drawing lesson. They followed me step by step on the board but did not know what they were drawing till about the whiskers. It was drawn with oil pastel and painted over with black watercolor. It always intrigues me how different each drawing comes out when everyone got the same direction.
